The Distracted Boyfriend meme originates from a 2015 stock photograph by Spanish photographer Antonio Guillem, titled 'Disloyal man with his girlfriend looking at another girl'. The image first surfaced as a meme on a Turkish Facebook page in early 2017, where it was used to depict a fan torn between two rock bands. By August 2017 it had exploded on English-language Twitter as a flexible three-label format for any 'tempted to abandon X for Y' situation.
