LinkedIn Text Formatter
Paste a ChatGPT draft, markdown, or a Google Doc and get a LinkedIn-ready post: bold and italic that survive the paste, clean bullets, and links that stay clickable. Preview the fold and count characters before you post.
Screen readers can read styled letters one at a time or skip them. Bold a few key words, not whole paragraphs.
Your post appears here as LinkedIn will show it.
LinkedIn shows about 210 characters on desktop and 140 on mobile before "...more".

How LinkedIn Bold Text Works
LinkedIn stores posts as plain text, so there is nowhere to put a bold tag. What looks like bold is a different set of characters. Unicode includes complete alphabets of styled letters for mathematics, such as 𝗕 (U+1D5D5) next to the ordinary B, and they paste anywhere text goes.
This tool uses the sans-serif sets. They match the system fonts LinkedIn uses for posts, so bold words look like a heavier weight of the same text rather than a different typeface. The serif sets that many generators use look like Times New Roman next to normal text. Numbers get bold digits too, but there are no italic digits in Unicode, so they stay upright in italic. Accented letters keep their accent, and emoji and other alphabets pass through unchanged.
Links are written as text followed by the URL, because LinkedIn only makes a bare URL clickable. URLs and hashtags are never styled, since a styled hashtag stops being a hashtag. Code blocks stay plain so the code still works if someone copies it, and tables become one line per row.
This is only for places that take no formatting. If you are pasting into Google Docs, Notion, or an email, which keep real bold and headings, use Markdown to Rich Text instead.
Use Bold Sparingly
Styled letters are a workaround, and it shows for some readers. Screen readers can read each letter as a math symbol or skip the word, LinkedIn search may not match it, and a post that is mostly bold is harder to scan, not easier. That is why nothing here is bold unless you ask for it.
A good rule: bold the hook or one key phrase per paragraph, use line breaks and short paragraphs for structure, and let bullets do the rest. If you only need to strip markdown symbols from a ChatGPT draft, turn off "Unicode bold and italic" and you get clean plain text. For em dashes in other places, there is a separate em dash remover.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you bold text in a LinkedIn post?
LinkedIn has no bold button for posts, comments, or your profile. The workaround is Unicode: there are separate "mathematical" letters that look bold or italic, and they paste into any text box as ordinary characters. Type or paste your post here, select the words, click B (or press Ctrl+B, Cmd+B on a Mac), then copy the result into LinkedIn. Markdown like **this** is converted automatically.
Why does ChatGPT text look wrong when I paste it into LinkedIn?
ChatGPT and Claude write in markdown. Their chat window renders it, but LinkedIn shows the raw symbols, so you get **asterisks**, ### before headings, and [text](link) brackets. Paste the draft here instead: bold and italic become Unicode styles, headings become bold lines, lists get bullet characters, and links become "text (URL)" so they stay clickable.
Does LinkedIn support markdown?
No. LinkedIn posts, comments, and profile fields are plain text. The only things LinkedIn turns into links are bare URLs, hashtags, and mentions you pick from its own menu. LinkedIn articles and newsletters have a rich text editor, but it does not read markdown either.
Is bold text bad for accessibility?
It can be. Screen readers see Unicode styled letters as math symbols, so some read them letter by letter ("mathematical sans-serif bold capital H") and some skip them. Search also treats them as different characters, so a bold word may not match a search for it. Use bold for a few key words or a short hook, never whole paragraphs, and keep hashtags plain. This tool leaves hashtags unstyled even inside bold text, and the "Unicode bold and italic" switch turns styling off completely.
Why does LinkedIn remove my line breaks and blank lines?
LinkedIn keeps single line breaks, but it can collapse empty lines, most often in the mobile app, which turns a spaced-out post into one block. This formatter keeps every line break exactly as you wrote it. If spacing still disappears after posting, turn on "Keep blank lines from collapsing", which puts an invisible Braille blank character (U+2800) on each empty line so LinkedIn does not treat it as empty.
Where does "...see more" cut off a LinkedIn post?
LinkedIn does not publish the number, and it depends on the screen. Measurements put it at about 210 characters on desktop and about 140 on mobile, or 3 lines, whichever comes first. Short lines hit the line limit early. The preview shows the fold for both and marks where it falls when you expand the post.
Does bold text count against the LinkedIn character limit?
Yes, double. Testing by LinkedIn tool makers suggests LinkedIn counts each styled letter and each simple emoji as 2 characters, because they sit outside the basic range of Unicode. Emoji built from several characters, like skin tones and families, count more. The counter here counts the same way, so a heavily bolded post reaches 3,000 sooner than it looks.
What are the LinkedIn character limits?
A post can be up to 3,000 characters, a comment 1,250, your headline 220, and your About section 2,600. Pick the field under the preview to check against its limit. Bold and italic work in all of them, including the headline and About section, which have no formatting options of their own.
How do I remove bold or fancy text?
Paste it in and click Unformat. With text selected it only changes the selection, otherwise the whole box. It turns bold, italic, monospace, serif, script, fraktur, double-struck, fullwidth, circled, squared, and small capital letters back into normal letters and removes strikethrough and underline marks, while emoji, accents, and other languages stay as they are.
Is my post uploaded anywhere?
No. The formatting, preview, and character count all run in your browser. Nothing you type or paste is sent to a server, and there is no sign up.
