The This Is Fine meme is taken from a 2013 webcomic called 'On Fire' by KC Green, in which a yellow dog calmly drinks coffee in a burning room while saying 'This is fine'. The two relevant panels — the dog smiling in flames and saying 'This is fine' — were extracted and circulated on Reddit and Tumblr starting in 2014, becoming the canonical visual for 'normalizing a disaster I am clearly inside of'. The format saw an enormous resurgence in 2016 around political turmoil and has stayed in continuous use since. KC Green himself has since produced authorized variations and merchandise, but the original two-panel image macro remains the dominant template form.
